About the collection

SKNUPS has partnered with James Mack on the third capsule in his series READY-TO-DOWNLOAD. ‘Welcome to Trash Island’ portrays clothing made from recycled plastics set in scenes that make us reflect on the ways fashion waste is impacting our environment right now.

Each week we consume 5 grams of microplastics, which is about the same as eating a credit card. A key source of how microplastics get into our water supply is the fashion industry.

Pollution from fashion impacts our environment in a number of important ways. James’ three designs each call out a specific statistic that ask you to stop and think.

About River Cleanup

Every year, 11 billion kilograms of plastic pollution ends up in the ocean. A big part of this pollution flows into our oceans via rivers. River Cleanup wants to remove plastic from rivers before it ever arrives in the ocean.

Since being founded in 2019 as a non-profit organisation, River Cleanup has successfully removed over 2 million kilograms of river waste thanks to the efforts of over 150,000 volunteers across 58 countries participating in almost 3000 cleanups. By 2025, River Cleanup targets removing 100 million kilograms of plastic from the world’s rivers.

About James Mack

James is a digital-first artist who is driven by exploring how his work can have a positive impact on society. Humour frequently underpins James’s output and he has collaborated with an eclectic roster of brands. James’ background includes a formal training in Design for Art Direction at University of the Arts London.
